Clearing Up Energy Debate
Home

A year on from Live Earth

On the 7th of July 2007 the global event 'Live Earth' attempted to make billions of people aware of the problems of climate change attributed to carbon emissions. At the time, opinion varied regarding the usefulness of this event, as the 8th of August 2008 approaches, what progress has been made?

Certainly, the past year has seen increased public awareness and debate, and with that, some shifts in political positions, even policy has begun to change slightly... However, absent from most debate are many critical factors and the pace of policy shift is perhaps best described as 'glacial'. This situation can be greatly improved if there were some way to compare energy choices comprehensively and examine any area affected by energy choices exhaustively.

The good news is that that tool has been created. It is The Energy Framework.

This MoreThanOil site is structured using as much of The Energy Framework as could be captured in a web-site, it's not populated with content yet because it's awaiting the input of informed experts in each area. In fact, the site is available for use by any serious and responsible organization. But even a quick scan through the menu items illustrates the scope from which any energy option must be examined.

If you or you organization want to participate in this effort, please contact us, or. for further description of the project, please read on...

Have you listened to a media discussion on an energy alternative only to come away more confused than ever? Have you convinced yourself that one energy option is better than another then discovered information that contradicts your conclusion? Experts may be sincere, but their statements can be so opposite that they seem unreasonable. Why is this?

Often, seemingly incompatible 'facts' clash because of a key difference in what is being discussed: Is that "xyz economy" in 5 years, or in 25 years? Is that "abc fuel" created with current funding, or with N billions of new funding? Each parameter shifts the debate and affects the conclusion. The Energy Framework and MoreThanOil.com can clarify the debate, nailing down what is being said, and exposing what isn't being mentioned.

MoreThanOil.com is up for grabs, inviting energy expertise, contributions, information references and considered opinion. Even at the outset, you can see from the menus a unique structure that can shape the debate usefully. Note that this structure (a part of The Energy Framework) - is a neutral & comprehensive matrix of all energy topics, not a soapbox for one solution or another. The aim is to align true costs and benefits of ALL energy options, including oil, from every feasible perspective, clarifying when and how an energy choice is better or worse than another; in what aspects, in which regions, and in what timeframe.

MoreThanOil.com hopes this effort will influence politicians, investors and industrialists towards the best future energy policies possible, worldwide. If you want to be a contributer please join the effort.
